GQ MAGAZINE

Hello Hello. Ive haven't blogged as of late, as ive been mega busy & mega ill! Bad combination . . .
This week i was working at GQ magazine (GQ Style) at Vogue House with my friend Lauren Pires. Dream come true! When we werent sorting out clothes and accessories, we were bopping around, eating pizza and dreaming of macaroons. It was an amazing experience, and definitely confirmed my love for menswear.
I came across some designers that id never seen before, one of which was James Long; i love the multi coloured/paint print coupled with the simplicity of the designs. Some pretty cool looks. Then on the other side of the spectrum was wooyoungmi and i was really into the laptop cases and general colour palette of their ss11 collection. I also fell in love with some mens ss11 Prada shoes, i need to find out if they make them in a size 6!

100% HOT HEAD

ASHKAHN SHAHPARNIA. I came across this artist a few weeks ago on FFFFOUND and decided to check out more of his work. I'm really into his typography and prints and especially the humorous aspect to his works.

TOO COOL FOR SOUND

So i went to White Heat at Madame Jojo's on Tuesday and managed to catch the screening of John Cage's 'Cage against the machine', which basically consisted of 7 minutes of silence followed by Pon de floor. I have to say it was unexpected, and i didn't really get the point of it, but watching that kooks guy take it so seriously was kinda funny. Anyway, you can check it out here.

BUFFALO 66

I ended up watching buffalo 66 a few nights ago, completely by chance. I'd never heard of the film before, but really wanted to watch something. So going through the 'top 100 independent films' list (as you do), i stumbled across buffalo 66. Directed by and staring the amazing Vincent Gallo and a young Christina Ricci, i must say it was one of the best films ive seen in a long time. The effects weren't amazing, the story line wasn't out of this world, but on a whole it was one of those films that i just never wanted to end. Vincent Gallo's face helped a lot too.

Billy Brown has been in jail, but his parents think that he's married and successful. When he can't find anywhere in Buffalo where he can pee, he runs desperately into a dance studio to use the washroom. He winds up kidnapping a dance student, Layla to bring home and show off to his parents. The parents just barely remember their son or care about him, but Layla falls for him.

12ANGRYMEN

Watched this film for the first time about a year ago. I have to say i was a bit apprehensive about watching it at first after hearing that all 96 minutes of it took place in one single room, but it turned out to be one of the best films i've ever seen(and also in IMDb's top 10 of all time films). Such a simple concept and story line but i've never been so gripped.

'What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other. Based on the play, all of the action takes place on the stage of the jury room.' I'd definitely recommend watching it, if you haven't already seen it.

THE INDIGO BUNTING

Erin Jang of The Indigo Bunting is seriously talented. When/If i get married it will be Jang's custom invitations that will be sent out, they blew me away. So used to the generic nature of the wedding invitation, it was refreshing to see something new and different; fun. Erin Jang also creates posters and delves in other various areas of design work. You can check it all out HERE(THE INDIGO BUNTING)

BOOK STAIRCASE

I came across this amazing 'book staircase' a few months ago, but only just discovered the brains behind it! Tim Sloan of Levitate Architects came up with this innovative solution to a storage problem and desire for an in-house library, 'We created a 'secret' staircase, hidden from the main reception room, to access a new loft bedroom lit by roof lights.' One day i will have one of these.

LETTER CULT

'LetterCult IS OUR ATTEMPT TO HIGHLIGHT ARTISTS & designers doing remarkable work with Custom Letters. This group includes type designers, letterers, sign painters, graffiti artists, stone carvers, calligraphers, poster artists, and graphic designers. Just people. Who make letters.'

Includes the likes of Kate Moross and Parra, two of my personal favourite graphic designers/illustrators. Great website if your a text person like myself. Heres some work previously featured on LetterCult by design duo RageHaus.

MEGAN GALANTE

TEXT/BANNERS. Sweet, simple and fun. Similar to the 'suck it' bunting i made a few weeks ago, love it. I could do with some of these in my life.
